Appraising Animation Task

"Circus" by Miwa Matreyek

Circus from citrusink on Vimeo.

The name of this animation is, “Circus”, created by Miwa Matreyek in 2009. The viewer is greeted by a black screen accompanied by some sound for the first twenty or so seconds, followed by an opening scene. Throughout the video, subject matter related to the title - Circus, can be seen. This includes; people such as circus performers and ring masters, animals such as cats, lions and elephants, and circus props such as fire rings and hoops. The impression and mood of the work is mysterious and ominous, achieved by sound effects and the black and white scenes, yet, contradicting this are the cheery, up-lifting music and simple dance movements of a girl.

As mentioned before, Matreyek has used black and white for the whole of this particular work. The majority of the film is darker-coloured, causing a mysterious and ominous effect to be created. However, the opening scene is the only exception, where white is dominant. This part consists of line drawings. Thin lines are drawn and connected to another image. The connected images are on top of each other and the background music played all throughout this scene, compliments the title, also line-drawn, which is placed near the top. When zoomed out, the title is darkened which acts as a starting point for the following dark scenes. The black transition where there are white writings in circus handwritings also corroborate with the title and theme, Circus, (Circus Handwriting). The next scene shows a person with a black hat and a moustache who is talking quickly and excitedly. Since the person’s clothes and hat are dark, the audience’s attention is drawn to the person’s face and hand. The hand movements are quick and vigorous, and the mouth is moving rapidly. The quality of movement in the head and hands are poor. It jumps around and does not smoothly flow, adding into the effect of rapid movement. Furthermore, the sound effect of women’s voice singing high contributes to the excited talking of the person. Therefore, the mood here is cheery; however, the person’s appearance and the darkness suggest something ominous. The next scene shows many people dancing in a room. This scene is also darker coloured and shows a variety of rapid movement in the dancers through jerky movements. The constant beat only present in this scene is an addition to the fast movements. The scene of elephantitis supported by the elephant-like sounds and the following scenes are portrayed of similar mood. Overall, the visual language and sounds are consistent.

Matryek’s work, “Circus”, is interpreted to be one point of view of a circus. This short film actually starts from when the circus tent is put up, runs through the show and finally closes to an end. The very start of this animation shows a black screen, but when the viewer listens attentively, one can hear and visualize the rope being hoisted up as the circus tent is put into shape. The opening scene introduces the audience to the circus accompanied by distinct circus music. Following this scene is the ring master who is defined to be the “master of ceremony” in a circus, (Ringmaster), as shown in the film. Visual language and sound is incorporated into this scene to establish the ringmaster’s job. As shown by the ringmaster’s movement and the slightly high-pitched women’s singing- which almost seems like talking, the ringmaster is dutifully doing their job, talking and keeping the show moving. The next three scenes are the acts or performances. There are many dancers dancing at a fast pace, some doing the same choreography, some completely different. This shows the variety of different performances. Elephants are an essential part of a circus, (Should Circuses be Forced to Stop Using Elephants in their Acts), and Matryek does love elephants, (Miwa Matreyek – Featured Artist); however the introducing caption to the scene talks about a “deadly disease called Elephantitis”. Elephantitis is not real and is a word that is misheard from elephantiasis, (What Is Elephantitis?), which are often abnormally enlarged thighs that look a bit elephant-like. This concept is used to portray the human as an elephant in this scene. It also indicates that whether one believes it is a circus or one believes it is a freak show, it is all a matter of one’s point of view. The accompanying sounds seem like sounds made from elephants through their noses creating the elephant in the viewers’ minds. The part in this scene in which there is a pipe that seems like an elephant’s nose sucking a person who seems like they’re about to collapse, corroborate with the caption which states that it is ‘deadly’. The final act is the ‘thumb princess’, which once again show that circuses are judged solely on one’s point of view. The thumb princess is placed in the scene inside a tree which, in comparison, is very large. The music has a mysterious tinge to it and especially with the thumb princess’s actions, it makes her seem mysterious and peculiar. Finally, the circus comes to an end with the words, “until next time”. The various people are forming a pyramid, the final act, while doing simple gestures- touching their glasses and tipping their head slightly, (How to Read Body Language). They are nodding good bye. The eye, near the top of the screen, is darting around, signifying that they are including everyone from the audience in their farewells. The whole animation finishes with the black screen with the sounds of ropes being hoisted- down this time, as the tents are being packed up. When asked, respondent A, replied, “It’s trying to demonstrate the person’s idea of what a circus is. It’s just, well, it’s one of the better words of a demonstration of a person doing freaky things”. While respondent B – a primary school student, commented, “I don't get it. It's really freaky but I liked the thumb princess because it was cute” and respondent C replied, "Although it's titled, "Circus", it seems more like a collection of bizarre but amazing animation clips." The intended audience of this work seems to be anyone who would appreciate another person’s point of view on this matter.

Oodle Jump

COMPLETED Oodle Jump - guess what? SOUND :D

EnjoyX)

Reflection/ Evaluation

Honestly, when Mr. P told us, I sighed at the thought of working on an animation for a whole term. I had no idea what story I would do and I had this terrrrrrrible feeling that I wouldnt do any work for the first couple weeks.

Heh, this all lasted one minute. I pulled my iPhone out of my pocket and eagerly pressed "Doodle Jump", my favorite apple app... TING! Yes, that was the sound of a lightbulb suddenly turning on. I could picture the whole storyboard in my head about this little dude getting sucked out of the phone and having a lil adventure! I got so excited that I actually started working on the first scene on the following weekend!

As the term progressed, I found that my animation turned out to be quite different from the movie I imagined, stashed somewhere in my brain. However, the original concept was not altered. The story plot did not falter and I believe that the cuteness of my Oodle dude was present,,, to some extent. X)

One thing that was clearly modified was the scene numbers. I splitter some scenes and stitched some scenes together, however, this did not affect the overall animation at all.

During the process of creating my animation, not only did I have heaps of fun, I believe that I developed skills in the several aspects:

1) Drawing
Animationish required a lot of drawing, which consequently led to improvement:) One specific example I would like to point out is the tears when my Oodle dude cries. Although i havent quite mastered the part where the tears fall, i believe that the part where tears are welling up in the lil dude's eyes is pretty good. I didn't know how to do that before, but with the help of Camille, i learnt.

2) Different shots. 3) Stopmotion.
These two go together. Scene 2 was my first attempt at stop motion in quite a while. As you can see, the movements are quite "jerky" and not-so-smooth. The camera shots, like the point of view, are limited. However, improvement is shown and the end of scene three and four show smoother action. These scenes also show a variety of different shots, or views.

4) Efficiency
The time I took to complete scene 4 or 5 is amazing compared to that of, say, scene 1. While scene 1 took a couple of weeks, I finished scene 5 in three lessons. Efficiency.. That's what it's all about :)

I encountered a few problems, but surprisingly, not as much as I thought I would. Ever since information futures in grade 7, I had the impression that if animationish didn't shut down on you at least twice in one lesson, you were luckyyy! So yes, it shocked me when animationish didnt even once shut down on me, except for the opening scene dilemma mentioned previously. A couple problems I encountered is posted in other entries. One I didn't post is scene 5 where I had to get the Oodle dude up the table by his jetpack. Whoa, I did think it though while planning the story board, but it was quite hard. When my fellow creative median asked me how the heck I would do that, I replied, "I dunno, I'll think about it when I get there." ahaha. What I did was; Get a picture of the Oodle dude with his jetpack looking upwards in a determined expression. Then I moved camera moving upwards while filming. I made this an image sequence and imported each individual photo as a background in animationish. I imported the photo of the determined Oodle dude in the foreground. Using the treasure chest and the truck, I made him gradually move up to the table, following the background positionings. Then, I drew the flames cming out of the jetpack! I was so proud of this scene:) the sound effects really topped it off well.

My storyboard is seemingly messy and rushed. I admit, it's messy. But it's definitely not rushed! Each word and drawing ran through my head for at least a couple days before they were converted onto a piece of paper. The storyboard was awesome. It acted as a guide whenever I was stuck or got sidetracked. It was very helpful, it felt like bringing a maths book into a maths test! Hehehe

I didn't have any time-management issues,,,,or, so I thought. The first half of the term, I was sitting there, lazily working on my animation singing "La La LA! Whatever. La La LA! It doesn't matter. La La LA! Oh WELL!" (Tonight Tonight >> By Hot Chelle Rae). This was all good until the DUE DATE loomed around the corner. I didn't have enough time sing tonight tonight while working on my animationish:( but enough time to finish it, albeit the credits were a bit rushed:) Oh, I left one day for sounds, instead of one week. It still worked out fine. Okay, what I SHOULD HAVE done is this. Work more efficiently on the first couple of weeks in order to allow more time for later scenes, credits and sound. Although I finished everything in time, this would allow me to go over everything thoroughly therefore this is the improvement I believe I should make.

My Animation was broken up into parts, like suggested. As a result, at the end of each part, I could check over my scene and then post it up on my blog. Plus, whenvever I encountered a problem or had a complaint or modified something, I put all the info up on my blog. Therefore, in my opinion, yes, I did have adequate reflection throughout my project.

Initially, I believed that I would finish this project in no time. However, this point of view changed when I worked on the very first part of my animation for what seemed like 30 minutes….which actually turned out to be 3 hours! Gawshhh, once, I finished my scene but I didn’t ike one part so I tweaked it a bit and WHAM! A WHOLE LESSON GONE! ahahaha. So yesh, it required wayyyyyy more time than I thought it would.

Ooh, if I could modify my animation, I would def. modify scene 2! I would make the movements smoother. Also, I couldn’t find a suitable sound track for the opening scene of my animation. Therefore, I used a random sound track from garage band but whenever I watch it, it doesn’t create the same “mood” or “atmosphere” that I wanted.

“What would I do differently?” is, in fact, quite unrelated to the previous paragraph as that paragraph states the things I would like to modify, meaning that I can’t have huge changes. An example being,, say, change the main character. That would be in this paragraph, not the last one. Wait, that was just an example! I would never change my lil Oodle dude!! Okay, something I would do different is, manage my time more efficiently. Some changes relating to my animationish would be a different opening scene and a different credits page. As explained before, I would like to make my opening page a bit more.. decorative, and as a originally planned: start with “odle Jump”, then have my lil Oodle due roll in the capital “O”, which makes it “Oodle Jump”! Haha:D Also, I would like to hand draw my credits in animationish with my lil Oodle due jumping in and out of the scene!

Overall, I think this assessment was pure awesumness! I am so glad that I chose Creative Media over Design Futures, as i enjoyed every lesson of CM! I like this assessment in particular as the product of it, Oodle Jump, is great! It turned out chouette and i love the fact that I made it

Ending /Credits

As I finished all the scenes and pieced them together in iMovie, I remembered that I needed credits. I planned to have a hand drawn credits with the Oodle dude jumping around. But, time didn't approve of that plan and whoop, I just used the ones they provide on iMovie. This didn't give me enough room to thank Camille and Kerys and properly reference the music I used and Doodle Jump! Heh, I'll post it on my blog as a separate entry:)

Complaint!

All this year, animationish was fine. It never shut down, stuffed up or crashed,, until I got to this scene.

By the time I was up to this scene, I completed scene 1, 2, 3, 4. While I was working on scene 5, I remembered that I didn't have a opening scene! And so, I borrowed a laptop over the weekend and worked on the scene. When I was half done... WHAM! It stuffed up, crashed and shut down! I had no one to blame, after all, I should have saved.

So, I reopened animationish and patiently redrew the whole thing over again. This time, I clicked on save. Then, the terror of the rainbow swirl began! *shudder* following this...WHAM! Stuffed up, crashed and shut down!! Gah!

I thought, "I shouldve saved earlier". I reopened animationish and redrew all over. But this time, after I did one quarter, I pressed save. Terror of rainbow swirl, WHAM, stuffed up, crashed, shut down, and so on. I dont know how I managed, but I was feeling very patient that day, probs due to the chocolate, hehe. I repeated this process FIVE more times, before thinking of chucking the laptop out the window. It was the schools,, so I didn't.

Monday, I got to school, did the cursed scene on a different laptop, WHAM, I got another laptop, did it again and WHAM. GAHHHH! Mr. Powell gave me an oh-so-helpful advice, "get a different laptop". Ha.

This is the story of how my opening got deleted eleven times across four different laptops. I ended up with a different scene, but meh. Im satisfised:)

Scene 4

Scene 4 - no sound

a bit shorter than the other scenes :) ... i think.

BUT! this is my favourite scene! hehe

Scene 3

Here is my Scene 3 - no sound

i love the part at the end where my lil oodle dude is looking up and then he blinks twice! ahaha

Another Problem Encountered..Another Solved :)

Currently working on Scene3, the part where my lil doodle dude cries: I encountered another problem. Before the lil doodle dude cries, i want him to "shake"/"tremble" etc.

But,,, I can't just shake it with my hand! I can import each frame into photoshop and get rid of my hands, yes, but that just takes too much time - which is something i dont have.

Sooo, I asked Mr. Powell for help. He suggested importing it into animation-ish and yeh, but I thought of this option and crossed it off my list even before the photoshoping part.. Cuz it also takes to much time and plus, i dont want the doodle dude to be teethering up and down - that's what it would look like in animationish..

Solution:
I was walking around the room and came across sticky tape! Whoop!
Using sticky tape, positioning the camera to exclude it from view, i successfully made my doodle dude "tremble"!

Progress

I am planning to have 5 Scenes.

Today is the 19th of July and I have completed 1 scene. I am currently workingon my 2nd scene.
But...is it due in August?? or October??? i'm confused!

In class, i encountered a problem (see post below) but managed to solve it. I have the JPEG file thing, and with that, i'll start zoomed in the black part and then zoom out. Then, i'll show different parts of the charger line. If what I just wrote was incomprehendable,,, I'll upload the video when i'm done!

Problem encountered...and solution:)

As shown in the first few seconds of scene 1,

I used my iphone 4 in a orange case. This was done in Term 2.

During the holidays, i got a new case, totally forgot about the animation thingy i was doing and chucked out the orange case.

So, using photoshop, I created a picture I could use instead of my actual iphone in a orange case sitting on a desk connected to the laptop by a charger.

(The charger is important cuz thats how the little doodle jump dude came out of the laptop)

First, I took a picture of the desk i was working on:

then googled "iphone 4 in a orange case":

then googled "iphone charger":

I put them together, got rid of white parts, created shawdow and voila! :)

Completed Scene 1

Scene 1 of Oodle Jump has been completed by the end of term 2! Whoop!!

Below this post is my storyboard. I have made a minor change:

Box number - Scene number
Before
1 - 1
2 - 2
3 - 2
After
1 - 1
2 - 1
3 - 1

So basically, Scene 1 is longer and scene 2 doesn’t exist anymore; meaning that scene 3 is 2, 4 is 3, 5 is 4, etc.

I’ll upload Scene 1 on the next post because I didn’t bring my USB

It’s the holidays! I’m in another country! .........and, im updating my creative media blog..........How sad :’(

#2 Stop Motion: USB

This is my 2nd stop motion that i made last lesson with the separate camera connected to the laptop. I think the camera is really useful when doing the istopmotion thing - it's easier to see whats going on, on the screen when your not worried about bumping it...

Stop Motion -> Sand Motion

Apparantly, we only have one week to work on iStopmotion.

so, me and camille went down to the sand pit thingy at Junior School and made this random thing

Our plan was to build up the sand and crush it down into a castle -- if that makes any sense;;
but, our time was limited and the last minute change was made:

It's in 2 parts because the original one didnt upload for a whole lesson

Incase you dont get whats happening:

1. the sand is building up
2. the sand dump thing is crashing down
3. (was suppose to crash down into a castle but) decided to get this random bucket to thump down onto the sand from the sky
4. the bucket gets pushed down
5. when i go pick up the bucket, there is no more sand in the bucket.
(Yes. thats moi. like my shoes? :)

My Walking Man

Our 2nd task of the term was to make a walking man and then learn how to make him walk across the screen.

My walking man is made of 9 frames that is looped over and over again.

How to make your walking man move across the page:
1. Draw your walking man. 9 frames is perfect, remember that both your left and right leg has to take turns to move forward.
2. copy and paste the 9 frames just a couple times
3. on your first frame click on the box with a + sign
4. Do the same to your very last frame
5. on your first frame, using the truck and making the Vrooom! sound, move your person to the left side of the screen and preferabley out of the frame.
6. on your last frame, using the same method, move your person to the right

Pixar

What does the word 'Animation' remind you of?

It reminds me of.... "Pixar"

Dum Dum Dummmmm

I betcha everyone has seen that cute little lamp bouncing along until it sees a "I" and decides to bounce on it:
aaaaand, here are some examples of the animations they created:

Familiar, ayye?

The examples up there are all animation movie things. But Pixar also makes these really funny short clips that win awards and stuff. This is a picture from one of them:

This short animation is named 'Lifted' and you can see it on their website or something but here is one link to Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_JKzRy1XKM

Go see it!! :)

-Actual- Bouncing Ball

Here is the actual Bouncing Ball.. :) I played around with the colouring and added a very simple background. I tried to use the colours to express the fact the the ball is spinning as it is bouncing.

Making a Ball Bounce.. Not Splash

Our first task of this term was to make a ball bounce about four times. I learnt in my 1st/2nd lesson these key points: 1- In Animation, exaggeration is used like plays in theatres (?) and unlike movies. Plays in theatres use exaggerated expressions, movements, actions and gestures because some ofthe audience are far away. On the other hand, in movies, the camera zooms in and out, allowing more subtle expressions, actions and so on. 2- Animationish is very hard to use, even with the tablets and pens (I take forever using animationish) 3- The assessment for this term is animations but it is not due until August or something.. Whoop! :D Anyways, the first task we were assigned to do was making a ball bounce. as said above, we learnt to make exagerated movements like: stretching the ball into a oval shape just before hitting the ground to express the gravity pulling down on it, flattening the ball when it hits the ground and the spacing of the balls to show speed. I was suppose to make it bounce but by the end of the lesson, I ended up with a ball splashing into water....haha -_-;; here it is but i accidently made it too fast:

Term.. 2!

Yay! its term 2, everyone!

Sadly, we finishished our photoshop thingy and are now starting...

*Drum Rolls*

Personality portrayed by colour of Necra'an

Hope this is read-able:

Evaluation

Good days, bad days
Of course, there were good days and bad days. The first couple weeks consisted of good days where I relaxed and experimented with my avatar. Those were great lessons where I really had fun and got to know Photoshop. I always looked forward to C.M classes and whenever I checked my timetable, I checked for C.M. When everyone was siting on the tables, I decided to venture off into M1 and plopped myself onto the rouge et bleu couches. I was lounging around in the さむい air-conditioned room drinking coke. (I was working, honestly.) oh, those happy days. I don't know what happened to them. I think they ended when I walked into the room and found a long glass door blocking my way to "my" lounge room. Yep, i think that was it. My regular check for C.M classes stopped. *sigh* working on the desks were so hard. I reckon I work so much better on the couches. Anyways, I was a bit slow with my experimenting and judgements at the first part of the term but I knew that my second avatar would only take a weekend to do it after my first one is done. Therefore, I was on track... But it would have been better for me to have used my time more 'efficiently' in the middle part of the term. Maybe less complaining about the glass door that blocked me from "my" lounge room and less complaining about how i prefer to 'get the builder to build the house then describe it' rather than 'get the achetait design it then get the builder to build it'. Hmm.

What went right? What went wrong?
I always find the start of my assignments hard. This is because I come up with an idea then think that I can come up with a better one. This is why I start my assignments first then do the description, etc. Its like building the house than describing it. Anyways, when I thought of the Necra'ans, I didn't quite like it 100% but I had to start my avatar. The first lesson I actually started working on my avatar, I spent too much time in coloring the leaves for their hair. Then I tried to follow my personality profile, therefore spent much of my time searching for the right images. With a little change in my personality profile, I finished my first avatar. I took quite a while on my first avatar. But I finished my second avatar in a day so that went well. Also, I couldn't find s suitable background for my planet either. I had to create one from scratch and that didn't go well with all ther other assignment/tests going on. I made it from a few simple things like a tree, cloud, sky, bush. Then I put the avatar in it. It looked horrible. Our avatars were suppose to look good. Well, at least that's how it turned out for everyone except moi. Mine looked like some random, freaky thing in a weird background. I did my second one. Since the first character didn't have a "body", I put my second character on a body then into a background. It looked worse than the first one. I liked the background and shadow for the second one but the face was....yeh. I looked at my second one than my first one. My first one almost looked good compared to my second one.. Haha:)

If I had my time again, I would...
I think i used my time well in my blog. I posted all the necessary things such as the emotions, personality profile and evaluation as well as extra experiments i did and the process of the creation of my avatar. I have about 15 posts for both Feb and Mar, meaning that i posted about once every two days,,not really but something like that. I was very glad i did this as i did not stress about my blog and post twenty posts all today with 5minute gaps in between every pst:) however, I would try to improve by using my planning time more efficiently and accurately. Instead of trying to write a personality profile for weeks in uncertainty, I should have searched for images as the base of my idea. For example, when thought of Le'c Necra then the Necra'ans and there physcal features, I could have searched different types of leaves, things I could overlay as their skin, different types of mouth, eyes, etc. This would have resolved my uncertainty and made changes based on the images I could work with. It never occurred to me that I could stop furiously typing away at my ipad to write the profile and take a look around, search some stuff and find new ideas.

How did I feel about using Photoshop
I had so much fun using Photoshop this term. Before I started this unit of work, i've always thought that Photoshop was just a (practically) useless program that was difficult to learn. For example, to put a electric tooth brush onto an iPhone, I just used 'paint' and successfully finished my financial futures assignment. However, during term 1, I learnt that with photoshop, I could do more 'complicated' stuff like overlaying other stuff (fur, snake skin, patterns) onto stuff like humans, use masking, liquify, healing brush, cloning stamp and more. It was always fun to learn these things because I was learning new ways to create exotic, surreal images.

Final Necra'ans

Final pieces for my Avatars:

1st Necra'an

Emotion: happy

This Necra'an is happy. By the colour of his lips -blue, orange and red, his personality is portrayed - Confident, persistant/determined and active. As an confident, persitent andactive avatar, he is venturing into the unknown. Roaming around freely picking berries and meeting new creatures in the forests of Le'c Necra. His slight smile without a trace of teeth is evidence to his happy emotion right now. His eyes are darkish brown which absorbs the sunlight and produces the streaks down his face. Through the way the streaks are glowing fairly brightly, it shows that this avatar is healthy and is absorbing enough light energy. Right now, his head is popping out of the bushes but when his head is down, he is very well camoflagued with his skin that matches his hair. In the background, the orange sky can be seen. The orange is the normal colour of the morning with a more yellow colour in the afternoon and a very darkish blue colour in the night only for about an hour or so. The clouds are all pink and fluffy, they do not spread out much and are in big clumps like the cloud shown in the image. The blue tree in the background looks as wide as the head of the Avatar, however, the tree is much far back.

2nd Necra'an

Emotion: Fierce, Furious

This Necra'an is obviously furious,,, you could tell if were a Necra'an. However, we being humans, she only looks very happy. The key points that a Necra'an would point out to say that this Necra'an is furious is 1. She is showing her teeth 2. is crouched in a uncomfortable position in which you can escape quicklt from one branch to another 3. The unmistakable shadow casted on her by an Etsnom as well as her human protective gear. The colour of her lips are purple, orange and red, also shown on her teeth. It shows that she is daring, determined/persistent and active/energetic. That can be the reason to why she is holding her postition with her teeth showing. If it were a Necra'an who possessed green, yellow or gold lips, teeth and tongue, they would definitely have left the scene. However, this Necra'an, possesing purple, orange and red lips, she is showing her dislike towards the Etsnom. If the Necra'ans were not peace-loving people, this avatar would have attacked the Etsnom by now. As shown in this image, Necra'ans are good at and often climb trees. This Necra'an is wearing the human protective gear brought int Le'c Necra through trading with humans. It is short so that their natural camoflague is still active while their weak parts are protected.

Oringinal Images

Here are the oringinal images that I used to make the Necra'ans. I'm not suppose to put them up because I lost all the links to the sources i got them from.. but, oh well here they are:

This is the person i used for my 1st avatar:

and my 2nd Avatar:

4th Draft: 2nd Avartar in background

Well, since my 2nd avatar only had a face, I had to find a body in google images that suited the background I made:

http://www.virginmedia.com/images/1laracroft-gal-4.jpg

Then, I got the body, layered/masked with some spectrum. Then I put it on the background, fiddled around with it then added the headof my second avatar. Looked weird, again fiddled around:

3rd Draft of 2nd Avatar

I proceeded onto the spectrum and then to the teeth/mouth. The spectrum is the same one i used for my 1st Avatar, but its just flipped horizontally so that it goes from pink/purple to red not red to purple/pink.
I choose purple, orange and red for her lips and teeth. I like how her teeth is also coloured but is not as noticable.

This is my final draft for the face only:

2nd Draft for 2nd Avatar

As you can see in my 1st draft, Ke$ha's face is a bit angled to the right. Therefore, I decided to use a different person who is looking straight ahead. I cant find the source of the pic so I'll just post up the second draft but not the actual person.. you'll just have to imagine her from the draft:

I started my seafloor layer on her and so far so good, I reckon:)

1st Draft of My 2nd Avatar

For my second Avatar, I wanted it to be someone who shows there teeth because I was planning to insert a Etsnom shadown at my final image. I found a pic of Ke$ha:

So I decided to use this one.
However, I wanted the hair to be differetn so I tried this and turned out to be like a piggytail:

2nd Background of Le'c Necra

This is made also from scratch.. the same blue tree + a 'branch':

and the same bush
and the same sky
and the same cloud

resulted in:

Something like that..
siggggggggggggghhhhh,
its okkkkkk, butt itss just....weirddd
hmm, I guess its better than the first one :)

The background of my Avatar - Le'c Necra

Well, since im nearly done with my Avatar, I decided to make my background. I couldnt find a good background in google images because people just dont go around taking photos of rainbow forests/plains in Earth. Therefore, I got a picture of the following:

-The sky: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://image16.webshots.com/17/4/20/15/186242015oTjJTa_fs.jpg&imgrefurl=http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1186242015057043262oTjJTa&usg=__JiNCYOKxAu9-j5KmR43HAYeHIlw=&h=960&w=1280&sz=22&hl=ko&start=1&zoom=1&itbs=1&tbnid=QYetc3vPNqyglM:&tbnh=113&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3Done%2Bpiece%2Bof%2Bcloud%2Bsky%26hl%3Dko%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1,isz:l&ei=RY2ETe26DYfEvgPG3unHCA

-A cloud:

anddd -a bush:

Then I put them in one new window as different layers. I coloured them using masking+hue/sat

Here's my finished background:
